APTC are delighted to announce that we are hosting the 4th Latin Famil from 30th April- 8th May. We would just like to welcome all of the delegates and we hope that they enjoy their stay in the beautiful Australia.

In April APTC staff members attended Famils to the South Coast, Kangaroo Island and 2 Famils to Tasmania.

Southern Ocean Lodge

WHAT’S NEW

The Ghan Platinum Service

  • Great Southern Rail has announced that the new deluxe Platinum Service is open for sales.
  • The first Ghan Service will depart from Adelaide for Darwin on 10 September 2008.
  • Platinum Service will be very exclusive, with a total of 25 cabins in 5 carriages that accommodate up to 50 guests.
  • This service will be available once a week.

City of Darwin Cruises

  • City of Darwin Cruises has 6 new Eco Habitat Sailing Adventures for your clients and guests.
  • Cruises depart from Cullen Bay Marina in stable award winning catamarans and offer 3 hour to 3 day sailing experiences. Please contact us for more information on itineraries.

Taronga Zoo

  • Taronga Zoo’s expansive Great Southern Oceans exhibit is now open. The new 1.2 hectare exhibit features animals living in unique displays, emulating their natural habitats and offering spectacular viewing for visitors.

Voyages

  • Effective from the 1st April 2008, all guests to Bedarra and Lizard Island will be transferred between Cairns and Hinterland Aviation terminals via a private car transfer.
  • Guests at Wrotham Park Lodge will, for the first time, be able to join the cattle mustering, rather than just observe. It is now easier for guests to fly into Wrotham Park Lodge, with three regular flights a week from Cairns with Hinterland Aviation.
  • Dining options for guests staying at Voyages Longitude 131° have been expanded to include private dining on the dune top, dining at the exclusive Table 131, and poolside dining (charges apply for poolside)
  • From 1 May to 30 September 2008 the following Regular Helicopter flights will NOT be operating; 10.00am Heron Island to Gladstone and 5.00pm Gladstone to Heron Island.

Blue Sky Brewery

  • Construction of the new Blue Sky Brewery is now well underway on its central site in Cairns.

Rose Gums Wilderness Retreat

  • One of the leading boutique accommodation
  • Located on the Cairns Highlands just over an hours drive from Cairns

Changes & Refurbishment


SunBus Melbourne

  • The Sunbus shuttle services meeting Flight EK404 will be suspended effective 01 July 2008.


Travelodge

  • The refurbishment of Travelodge Rockhampton has been officially completed.
  • Travelodge Mirambeena’s fresh new look has been completed


Cairns
International

  • Public areas are being painted which will take place until 23 May.
  • Pool deck at the Cairns International Hotel has sustained some damage and will be closed for maintenance until further notice.
  • Arrangements have been made for Guests to use the pool at the Sebel Harbour Lights.


Cairns
Colonial Club

  • Jardines, the signature restaurant, will not escape enhancement and will therefore be closed until the end of June 2008.


Australian Pacific Touring

  • With the conclusion of daylight saving in Melbourne the Mornington Peninsula Escape and Phillip Island Penguins Direct tours will not be available until the return of the summer season (Oct 08).
  • The first departure of the daily Mt Buller snow tour is expected to commence on the 6th June 08 –subject to ample snow fall. New packages are available for both daytours and overnight packages – please request details from our office.
  • Fraser Island in a Day Tour will now operate in a smaller 4WD vehicle. Child rates have increased, and Gold Coast passengers will need to pay a surcharge. Please contact us for full details.
  • Canberra Explorer no longer departs on a Sunday effective 01 May. The overland options will no longer be available for sale.
  • Port Stephens & Nelson Bay Adventure will change days of operation from 01 May, and overnight options will no longer be available.
  • Jervis Bay Dolphins & Southern Highlights: Effective from the 1st June the tour will no longer operate on Thursdays & Saturdays.


Novotel Brisbane

  • A new building of residential apartments is currently being built adjacent to the hotel.
  • The Spring Bar Terrace and Cilantro Terrace have been closed.
  • Completion TBC but likely to continue until 31/12/08


Stella

  • Saville and Pacific International’s apartment-style hotels have now rebranded into the Mantra portfolio, For a full list of the rebranded properties, please contact our office.


Adventure Tours Australia/Wayward Bus Service

  • Wayward Bus “Classic Tour’ of the Great Ocean Road from Adelaide to Melbourne and vice versa, will cease to operate as of 01 October 2008. Adventure Tours will offer alternatives, and all other products in the Wayward Bus Service range continue to operate without changes.


Skyrail – closure

  • Instead of their usual 2 week closure in May for maintenance, Skyrail will be closed spasmodically through the months of April, May and June. (7, 8 April; 12 May; 21-23 May; 26 May and 16 June).
  • Most tour operators including Skyrail will be operating to a different itinerary, or have cancelled Kuranda Tours. Our consultants will advise you of any affected bookings.


Great Southern Railways (GSR)

  • GSR has increased their fuel surcharges on The Ghan and Indian Pacific – in Gold Class only. (Overland Train and Red/Economy classes are not affected of the increase).
  • The Overland Train ADL/MEL and MEL/ADL: Works are being carried out at Melbourne’s Southern Cross station, coach transfers are being provided as a connection with The Overland between North Shore Geelong and Melbourne on some dates between April and June, adding travelling time.
  • Selected services on the Ghan and Indian Pacific have been withdrawn from service during Dec 2008/Jan 2009 and Dec 2009/Jan 2010.


Novotel Ningaloo Reef Resort

  • Novotel Ningaloo Reef Resort has started its next stage of development. The construction will be of the surrounding Marina development & construction of 24 new rooms & landscaping.
  • There will be minimal disruption to guests during the construction period.


Hyatt Regency Perth

  • The Cafe Restaurant is anticipated to re-open at the beginning of July, slightly behind schedule.


Cable
Beach Club

  • All renovations are now complete except for the Day Spa; estimated completion date is 1st September 2008.


The Horizon at Mission Beach

  • Due to ownership changes the name will change as of 01 June and will then be called The Elandra Mission Beach.


Olims Canberra - an All Seasons Hotel

  • Olims Canberra will undergo a major refurbishment over the next 2 years.
  • There will be a second restaurant option available for guests. The expected completion date is approximate 2010.


Cape
Lodge

  • Cape Lodge has commenced construction of the swimming pool and renovation/refurbishment of the Lakeside Superior Spa suites
