Great Ocean Ecolodge - A special place
Great Ocean Ecolodge is located just off the Great Ocean Road and the Great Ocean Walk within the grounds of The Cape Otway Centre for Conservation Ecology. Next to Great Ocean Ecolodge the Great Otway National Park is situated. It’s a beautiful place surrounded by bushland, lush rainforests, secluded beaches and steep cliffs, close to the spectacular coastline. The nearest town is Apollo Bay, which is 25 minutes away.
Great Ocean Ecolodge was founded by Lizzie Corke and Shayne Neal and it opened in 2004. The same year they won the Victorian Tourism Award for Best New Tourism Development, and after that they have won several other awards. Lizzie and Shayne are also founders of The Cape Otway Centre for Conservation Ecology, which was founded in 2001, three years earlier than Great Ocean Ecolodge. With Great Ocean Ecolodge up and running they want to give the opportunity to educate and engage people in conservation efforts. All profits are reinvested into wildlife conservation.
Five different guest rooms are being offered at Great Ocean Ecolodge, so your stay will be very peaceful and unique. All guest rooms are furnished with timeless antiques, crisp clean linen and a comfortable bed. The bathrooms are all equipped with fluffy towels and a large assortment of locally made soaps and shampoo.
Three of the rooms are overlooking the Otway Ranges were kangaroos come to graze at dawn and dusk. The other two rooms have a view over the kitchen gardens.
The dining is also very special. While you enjoy your dinner, made by talented chefs, you can watch the kangaroos, a special experience!
The Ecolodge experience includes a twilight walk with dedicated ecologists through the grounds of The Cape Otway Centre for Conservation Ecology to observe koalas and other Australian wildlife. You can also participate in a Conservation Ecology Lecture. There you will learn about the work The Cape Otway Centre is doing to ensure the future of the wildlife.
