Earthquake New Zealand – Update 1
Posted on November 14, 2016 by APTC in APTC New Zealand

Dear Colleagues and Partners,

First of all we would like to inform you that all guests and staff members are unharmed and well. We are trying our best to look after our guests and provide them with further information if needed.

The earthquake last night has affected many services around New Zealand. The main area impacted is the upper South Island, around Kaikoura, with several major road closures. Further updates can be found at:

Unfortunately all Cook Strait ferry sailings have been cancelled today (14 November 2016), but are currently scheduled to start operating again tomorrow. Due to continuing safety assessments of the terminal infrastructure, the Interislander ferry company is unable to carry foot passengers until approved by regulatory authorities. Therefore only passengers with booked vehicles are allowed to travel on the ferry.

All Coastal Pacific KiwiRail Scenic Journey services between Christchurch and Picton are cancelled until further notice. For the Wellington region people are advised to stay away from the Wellington CBD until all necessary building safety assessments have been completed.

The national tsunami warning has been cancelled effective immediately.

Please note that phone lines still should be only used for emergencies as we are experiencing power outage and phone line interruptions.

We do have access to our emails so if you have any queries please send this trough and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Many thanks for your continued support,
Your APTC New Zealand Team
