Flooding in Wellington city and region

Dear partners and colleagues,

Wellington has been cut off due to heavy rain fall and flooding. As rivers and streams burst their banks, roads, homes and businesses in Kapiti, Porirua and the Hutt Valley were seriously flooded in many areas.

Please be advised that:
* Rivers in the Wellington region are running at a very high level,
* State Highways 1 and 2 have been closed, leaving Wellington essentially cut off, as torrential rain brings flooding to the region,
* Rail lines to the Hutt Valley have been suspended between Wellington and Petone until further notice due to flooding,
* and public transport will be affected in Wellington and Wellington region.

Drivers have been advised to stay off Kapiti and Hutt Valley roads this evening wherever possible.
