Bula Dear Partners,
Please find mentioned below excerpt from Yasawa Island Resort advising on extension of temporary resort closure until the 30th of November 2017
“At Yasawa Island Resort & Spa – Fiji, we place the utmost value in our guests and the strong relationships we have built, maintained, and strengthened with our local communities, who are such an integral part of our company values and its ultimate success.
Earlier this year an unexpected and remarkable opportunity arose that directly and substantially affected our island and its inhabitants. After very careful deliberation, and weighing the benefits to our local communities, we took a group booking from a filming company to take over our resort for a substantial portion of the year.
Apart from the 80 local staff members from nearby villages that Yasawa Island Resort & Spa is able to employ, the approximately one thousand other villagers of Yasawa live a simple subsistence life of fishing and farming. This unexpected opportunity was an unprecedented chance for them to obtain not only income from leasing their land, but also by receiving mass employment for the local population for an extended period of time. The commitment to our local communities and our ongoing sense of social responsibility is paramount in what we do at the Resort and one of the main reasons we have such a high return rate of guests.
Unfortunately, due to a combination of factors beyond the resorts control the groups filming has been slightly delayed and the planned reopening of the resort on the 1st of November is now delayed until the 30th of November.
Please understand that this extension to the groups booking has been an agonizing decision, knowing that we would be causing such disappointment and inconvenience to you.
Once again, we sincerely apologize for this unexpected change”
